Copywriter Wanted

We just placed an ad on Craig?s list for a ?creative? writer. We want to add someone with at least 10 years of experience and who knows the business. We specifically asked not to send us a resume as we felt that wasn?t very creative.?

What do we get? A bunch of emailed resumes. What the heck? If you?re a writer applying for a posted ?Creative Writer? wanted job why not ah, be freakin creative? Sending a resume just puts you in a big stack. Differentiating yourself puts you on my too call list.?

Which list do you want to be on??

I won?t hire anyone that doesn?t do something creative. Sending me an email with a link to your portfolio is not going to get a call back, period. You?re suppose to be creative, start acting like it!?

Brand Identity Guru is seeking a creative writer, creative?s only apply.

Perhaps the issue isn’t with the creatives, but rather with the medium chosen to look for quality writers.

Sad to say, but a great majority of “job” postings for writers over on Craigslist land us with an automated reply offering to sell us a membership to the latest freelancing scam site.

Trust me when I tell you that it is simply much easier to send an attached resume, rather than putting our juices to the test for nothing more than a spam-artist’s autoresponder.

If you are looking for true creatives, then perhaps you should lower yourself to come find out where we actually live, work, and hang-out. It would take just as long to post your listing on one of the well-respected sites we so often frequent; rather than taking the cheap way out to post on a site known for scams and spam.

We writers may be of a different ilk, but we still expect a certain level of modicum from job posters that we simply do not get on Craigslist. Granted, there may be a one-in-a-million post like yours that is offering a real opportunity; but it is simply too much time out of our busy schedules to reply “creatively” to every single post, just to find that ONE.

Give us a break, and you’ll find the writer you are looking for. Post your job listing someplace we trust, such as over on WritersWeekly.com. or AbsoluteMarkets.com. Then and only then will you find writers that will be willing to respond as you’ve requested.

Just my “Creative” opinion. I wish you all the best, and pray you understand that this was written with your best in mind.

Thanks for the response. I got lucky and found a fantastic writer that just completed his first project for us. Personally I take job postings very seriuosly and I always try and put my best foot forward.

You only get one chance at a first impression.
