Internal Branding and Manny Being Manny

The Red Sox dumped a future Hall of Famer yesterday. They sent him packing and said don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. But why?

Internal branding is the answer.

I’m constantly preaching to my clients that you need to brand inside out. If your employee’s are saying and doing something different than what the company brand identity is, well, you’ve got problems.

Manny being Manny is a classic case of that. He was not on the same ship the Red Sox and his teammates were on. As of late the team has struggled because of this. Finally, the Red Sox dumped Manny, making their team weaker on paper but cured as an organization.

Think of it this way. If you had an all star salesperson on your staff that constantly no-showed meetings, and was openly critical of management to other employees?on a regular basis would you keep him/her?

Moral of this story your company (team) is always bigger than one individual. Your employees must be singing the same tune as the company. We call them brand ambassadors when this happens.
