Checks And Balances Are Just Checks Today
This election has been very frustrating for me as a branding guy. Obama has been brilliant in tying the fear of George Bush into McCain and he will win the election because of it. The average Joe just couldn’t see beyond the branding.
So as a Republican I get to watch the Democrat led House and Senate combine with the President to run the country. Checks and balances will be just checks now. There will be no balance. That scares me, a lot.
I’m happy to see that as a country race no longer has a place in our society. As we witness the first African American become President I feel great as an American. I’m very happy for this as we move forward. Racism will never disappear but this is certainly a huge step in the right direction.
So as we move forward with Democrats leading the House, Senate and Presidency you have to ponder something. Democrats will ultimately be SOLEY responsible for the next 4 years.
Be careful what you wish for.
Now it’s time to unite America and move forward. We need to all come together and support our new leaders. Hopefully they will lead us to a better place.

Scott, I agree that branding doesn’t necessarily help the actual function of political discourse, whether in elections or governing. And I think you’ve got it absolutely right when you wish for a united America. I wrote about the same topics at some length today on DIM BULB.

I have to disagree a bit here Scott - I don’t think McCain is losing because Obama did such a great job of tying McCain to Bush. I think Obama started off so well because he was inspirational. He lost much of that later in the campaign, but I kept waiting for McCain to step up, show some leadership and inspire me to vote for him. He never did. He appeared bitter and his “suspending his campaign” line and choice of VP ultimately doomed him.
You might disagree with Obama’s plans (and I do for many of them) but he laid out a clearer plan and was more inspirational. He seemed presidential and often, when I saw McCain speak, I didn’t get that same feeling. Plus, over the past month, I got sick and tired of him telling me about why I shouldn’t vote for Obama (Ayers, ACORN, Joe) instead of why I should vote for him.
On the flip side, down here in GA, I voted for someone I can’t stand because I too am afraid of any one party getting that super-majority. I don’t care which side you’re on, allowing one party complete control is not good for anyone. You nailed - it’ll all be about checks.

Well looking at the results it’spretty clear Republicans have all been lumped into George Bush. So we will indeed have complete Democratic control. They’ll be able to do whatever they want so get ready for it.
