Brand Loyalty
How loyal are you to the brands you adore? What does it take to make you leave a brand you love? I thought about that as I watched TV this morning. It became obvious to me that consistency and quality always need to be maintained.
This year I dropped a lot of TV shows that I really liked. I stopped watching Private Practice, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. I used to watch all these shows with my wife but now I find them to be goofy and unrealistic. The quality and consistency that originally made me like them has dramatically changed. Now I don’t watch them.
Brand loyalty is fragile and requires constant upkeep. Are you keeping up?

It depends, to some extent, on the circumstances. For instance, I love Sonic drive-thrus, but the service at the one near me isn’t great. However, it is the only Sonic for about 100 miles, so I’m not giving it up–it’s still better than the other fast-food here.
It seems like a virtual brand would be more fragile than others, simply because it’s so easy to go online and find something else. When I realized that iTunes had so many DRM restrictions, I immediately stopped buying my music there and went to Amazon MP3. YouTube doesn’t have anything interesting for commenters, whereas Viddler will let viewers place comments on a video timed to pop up on the screen at the appropriate moment of the video.

My favorite brand is Apple. Today I was looking for a cordless mouse. I stood there at Best buy with a Logitech in my left hand at $49. and and Apple Mighty Mouse in my right hand for $73. I went with the Apple product solely on my belief that they make a better product and the design was simple. Who knows, Logitech are a great company, but the Apple logo was worth another $24. I’ve had a Mac since it’s launch in ’84, so I guess for me it’s now part of my DNA.

well said… for bloggers to brand, they need an identity and an image. most do even have a logo.
