Obama’s Rockstar Brand

What a day yesterday. The Obama brand took over the White House with quit a splash. I’ve never seen anything like the enthusiasm I saw yesterday. Change is here…

Then the stock market dropped over 300 points, the most in inauguration history. I guess folks investing weren’t so happy.

It’s going to be interesting to see how long this rockstar brand image lasts. I know I’m going to be holding Obama to his promises. In the past politicians usually break their promises but Obama can’t do that. He made it clear that he was the change needed so, the proof will be in the pudding.

Where do you think the Obama brand will go?

I think his brand is going to stay more rockstar for the next year or so. I was in D.C. for the Inauguration and was amazed at the number of t-shirts, beads, posters, etc. that were being sold everywhere — he truly is a rockstar at this point in time and I think that will stick for a while. I am with you in that I want him to keep his promises.

After a year I’m not sure where his brand will be. I think the focus on change and eliminating a lot of what Bush did is what he is going to focus on, so his brand will probably be that of change, which it is somewhat now, but it is being superseded by his rockstar image. However, once that dies down and as long as he keeps up his change policies, I think his brand will stay with change.

I think the test of Obama’s brand strength will come with his first serious controversy or major broken promise. How he weather’s it will show the true strength of his brand – much like the prison sentence was a test of Martha’s brand.

    The public has short memories.

Obama’s brand is not about being a Rockstar. that is the reaction TO his brand.

The Obama brand is about hope, trust, integrity and pragmatic problem-solving over idealogical dogma. The country is ecstatic over his brand, currently giving him rockstar status because of the 8 years of despair the Bush brand of fear, terror and dishonesty we have been living with.

Noelle, this post had nothing to do with Bush. Let Bush go, he’s gone now. I’m not saying Obama’s brand is about being a rockstar I’m asking what you think his brand will be in the future once his rockstar status wears off?

  5. Noelle McReynolds Says:

Yes I understand that. But I do believe the rock star reaction was in part due to the stark contrast between the two. In a year, I think his will still be about the same core ideals of hope, trust, integrity and pragmatic problem solving,

I think Z magazine commentator Paul Street’s predictions will be spot on as far as Brand Obama goes. Just google “paul street” and “brand obama”. You can also find a link to his article on my blog (which has a far less charitable assessment) at dubya dubya dubya dot gaysagainstobama DoT Org)

Obama is just a brand, and nothing more

I have lots of expectation from this “brand”, it will be only time which will tell us whether this brand can deliver on promises or not.

    So wait n watch!

The obama brand is obviously very carefully orchestrated….and still is. However I feel that the branding part was more important during his election period than now, because his actual achievements become more important now.
