Kia Doing It Right
I’ve always said it’s easier to sell a brand down then to try and sell it up. For years Mercedes was well known for making a “base” model and selling it at a premium price but affordable to those that couldn’t spend $60K on a new Benz.
But over the last few years the Kia brand has really been upgrading their products and services. And they’ve been selling at a higher price, and getting it. The cars look great, have lots of options and really are a great VALUE.
Take the Kia Sorento (which I just recently purchased):

The car is safe, has a ton of horsepower and all the bells and whistles and all for in the $20′s.
What do you think of the new and improved Kia brand?

My last car was a Kia sportage and I will never own another Kia.
Albeit the car was 10 years old, but at 50k miles the cylinder head blew and I had to replace both the gasket and head itself. A few thousand miles later the entire engine died.
Since I was in no place to buy a new car I replaced the engine with one 3 years newer. 10k miles later the newer engine blows the head gasket.
I also found their engines incredibly difficult to navigate. I had to take off the entire casing just to change a spark plug and you’d have to be a contortionist to change the oil filter.
But that’s my 2 cents.

@Sam, I think they struggled with older models. I’m talking about 2008 and on. It appears they’ve made a stronger committment.

Sam, sometimes headgaskets blow because the engine overheats and nobody is on watch for the guages. Or if a reinstall it prob is an installation problem.
But the new Kias are very very nice for the buck. I have driven only Mercedes since 1977 and I am looking at the same Kia that Scott has-for a runaround and boat hauler–neat cars
